Wood pellets began to be used as fuel in the USA and Canada in the early 1980s, and in Austria and northern Europe from the 1990s. The use of heating pellets is increasing every year. In Germany, as an alternative biofuel, they began to be actively used from the winter period of 1999/2000. By 2008, about 80,000 individual homes had switched to heating with wood pellets. More than 8,200 solid fuel heating systems have been installed in North Rhine-Westphalia. The reasons for this were constantly increasing prices for liquid fuel and gas, the convenience of using solid fuel boilers and their environmental advantages.
Pellets are a modern and environmentally friendly fuel, which is gaining traction of the owners of boilers and stoves. Their use has many advantages that are worth knowing if you are thinking about switching to this type of fuel.
The advantages of pellets are obvious, starting with their environmental friendliness. Pellets are made from wood biomass, which makes them a renewable energy source. When burned, pellets release minimum harmful substances, which makes them an excellent choice for those who care about the environment.
Another important advantage is their cost-effectiveness. Natural fuel sources such as gas or oil are constantly increasing in price, while pellets remain relatively affordable. In addition, they have a high energy value, which allows you to use them effectively for heating houses and other premises.
Pellets are easy to store and transport due to their compact shape. No additional equipment is required for burning them, which makes them ideal for use at home.
Pellets are a highly-efficient type of fuel, as they have a high thermal capacity and provide long-term and uniform heating of premises. Their combustion leaves almost no residue, which allows to reduce the costs of cleaning boilers and stoves.
So, using pellets is obviously advantageous, as they are ecological, cost-saving, convenient and effective. As the owner of a boiler or stove, you can be sure that pellets will be a profitable choice for you and your household.
